A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summons for Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, to appear in court and respond to a fresh 16-count charge against him.
The court has set October 24 as the date for Bello’s arraignment, alongside two co-defendants. The summons was ordered by Justice Maryanne Anenih following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC, citing difficulty in serving Bello the charges filed on September 24, sought the public summons after multiple failed attempts. Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to publish the summons publicly and post it at Bello’s last known address as well as in conspicuous areas on court premises.
Bello and the two other defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are facing charges related to criminal breach of trust involving N110.4 billion. Bello’s absence on Thursday led to the postponement of the scheduled arraignment.
