Cape Verde’s national football team has received a heroes’ welcome after returning home from a historic FIFA World Cup campaign that captured the admiration of football fans around the world.

Goalkeeper Vozinha thanked supporters for their unwavering encouragement, saying the team had hoped to go even further but remained proud to celebrate the historic journey with the people of Cape Verde.

Ranked 67th in the world before the tournament, Cape Verde exceeded expectations by reaching the knockout stage before pushing Argentina to extra time in a thrilling contest.
