Buhari arrives Katsina for Presidential, NASS Elections

Date:

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday arrived in Daura, Katsina State, ahead of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

The presidential jet touched ground at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport at exactly 4:41 pm, ten minutes after which the jet was opened for the President and his entourage to come down and proceed to Daura on a white helicopter.

The President was received by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, some members of his cabinet comprising the State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar; Commissioner of Health, Engineer Yakubu Nuhu Danja, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, as well as other heads of various security agencies were on the ground to welcome the number one citizen.

Politicians, businessmen, and other senior civil servants were also on the ground to welcome the President.

Buhari, whose helicopter landed at 5:25pm in Daura, preparatory to the elections, will be participating, not as a candidate as he had done since 2003, but as a voter.

The President is expected to cast his vote in Saturday’s presidential elections at the Sarkin Yara (A) Ward, consisting of fifteen (15) polling units, in Daura Local Government Area, Katsina State, alongside his wife, Aisha Buhari and other family members.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said knowing the importance of every single vote, the President made sure that all members of his family, members of the entourage, including security, protocol and other staff were registered to vote in Daura.

“Before heading home for the elections, President Buhari had actively participated in the campaigns of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and presented the flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as his preferred successor, showcasing his record of statesmanship and contributions to economic development and democracy,” he said.
