BREAKING: Umaru Fintiri Defects To APC

Date:

Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement during a state broadcast on Friday.

According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of the people of Adamawa State and in pursuit of national unity. He stated that aligning more closely with the Federal Government would help advance key development priorities in the state.

Fintiri also disclosed that he moved to the APC alongside all his cabinet members, political appointees, and elected local government chairmen.

The development follows political shifts within the Adamawa State House of Assembly. The Speaker, Wesley Bathiya, had earlier resigned his membership of the PDP along with 14 other lawmakers.

Bathiya announced the resignations during plenary, reading out letters of withdrawal from the affected members.

One of the defecting lawmakers, Mahmud Kallamu, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, described the move as strategic.

An APC lawmaker, speaking on the sidelines, indicated that the party would welcome the defectors if they formally join.
