The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has sadly passed away following complications from surgery.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning, 29 August 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Ayilara underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, but tragically did not survive the procedure. This unexpected loss has shocked many, especially since Ayilara appeared to be in good health just days earlier.
On Monday, 26 August 2024, he attended the pull-out ceremony for Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe, showing no signs of illness.
Reports indicate that Ayilara walked into the hospital on Wednesday, expecting a routine procedure, but complications arose, leading to his untimely death. He will be laid to rest today, 29 August 2024, in line with Islamic traditions.
Before he was appointed the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Ayilara served as the acting Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, where he made significant contributions to law enforcement. His passing is a significant loss to the police force and the communities he served.
