The Vice President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, and his wife, Maria Alckmin, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday for the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), aimed at deepening South-South cooperation between the two nations.
The Brazilian delegation was received at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.
Also on hand to welcome the visitors were the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, among other top government officials.
Speaking during a brief reception, Senator Hadejia described the visit as a “pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” highlighting its importance in advancing Nigeria’s strategic international partnerships.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” he said. “Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.”
The three-day summit is expected to culminate in the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across a range of critical sectors, including defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange programmes.
The visit marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Brazil and is projected to result in meaningful policy outcomes that support inclusive growth and sustainable development.
