The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to investigate bribery allegations leveled against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) by social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
The decision followed a motion of urgent public importance presented by Hon. Patrick Umoh, representing the Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State.
In his motion, Umoh raised concerns over a viral publication by VeryDarkMan, accusing the EFCC of dropping money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, after allegedly collecting a bribe of N15 million.
Umoh also highlighted allegations that Okuneye, after being convicted of defacing the Naira, did not serve his sentence in the Nigerian Correctional Service but was lodged outside the facility.
Disturbed by these claims, Umoh emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against key law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting corruption and maintaining the correctional system.
In response, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas referred the matter to the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, with a directive to report their findings to the House within three legislative weeks.
