DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICE, VOWS TO CRUSH TERRORISTS, OTHER CRIMINAL ELEMENTS.

The Department of State Service, DSS, has dared terrorists, their sponsors and other criminal elements causing mayhem in the country to urgently stop all forms of atrocities in the land or be crushed.

Spokesman of DSS, Peter Afunanya, while addressing a world press conference on behalf of the Director-General of the agency, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, warned that the agency had resolved to deal ruthlessly with troublemakers in the country no matter how highly placed they might be.

Afunaya pointed out that already, certain individuals and groups seeking power were actively deploying twisted narratives not only to mislead the citizenry but also overheat the policy and cause a breakdown of law and order for their own selfish interests.

UK GOVERNMENT REMOVES NIGERIA, 10 OTHER COUNTRIES FROM RED LIST.

The UK government has removed Nigeria and 10 other countries from its red list.

UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, announced this on Tuesday while addressing Members of Parliament.

According to him, the red list is now less effective in slowing the incursion of Omicron from abroad.

The decision means England will no longer require hotel quarantine for travelers from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

However, testing measures, a pre-arrival negative test and then another PCR test after arrival remain in place for all travelers.

FUEL SUBSIDY REMOVAL: Nigerians Advise FG on Utilising Subsidy Savings.

The Federal Government has been urged to channel into education and infrastructure monies that would be saved from fuel subsidy removal, to alleviate poverty in the country.

MINISTER, NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS, SENATOR GODSWILL AKPABIO, SAY NIGERIA IS BETTER OFF AS ONE.

Away from that, The Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, says that Nigeria is better off as one, united and indivisible country, just as he thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for standing by the people of Benin Kingdom and giving them the needed support to reclaim what was stolen from them several decades ago.

Akpabio stated this in his remarks at the Fifth Coronation Anniversary of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Obama Ewuare 11, and the Signing of Deed of Transfer of Cambridge and Aberdeen Bronzes, in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Monday.

Earlier, the former Senate Minority Leader had a brief stopover at the private residence of the former deputy governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen, where he admonished his audience on the need to continually work for peace in the Niger Delta region for speedy development of the region and its people, particularly the youths.

MINISTER OF NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS, ADVISES YOUTH OF REGION TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NIGER DELTA UNDER 17 PEACE CUP.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has advised Youths of the region to take advantage of the Niger Delta Under-17 Peace Cup organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission to play themselves to stardom and as well engender peace in the region.

Akpabio who was represented at the opening ceremony by his Chief of Staff, Sir Ettekamba Umoren, said football remains a unifying factor across the globe and charged the eighteen participating teams from the nine States of the region to compete as brothers, bearing in mind that the aim of the tournament is to discover and nurture talents for the super eagles of Nigeria.

Senator Akpabio encouraged the players to combine academics with sports, so as to have a better fall back after their playing carrier.

On his part, the Niger Delta Development Commission Sole Administrator, Barr. Effiong Akwa pledged the commitment of his Commission towards achieving the aim of the tournament and making it an annual event in the region.

The newly appointed Interim Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Austin Eguavoen meanwhile, described the under 17 peace cup as a wonderful platform to discover young footballers.

MEDIA PRACTICE IN NIGERIA

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk says journalism practice in Nigeria has not been given prominence and acceptance at the national level.
Speaking with ABN Correspondent, Edafe Nelly in Uyo, Etuk said while journalists are facing challenges in the discharge of their duties at all levels, he said those practicing in Akwa Ibom State have been fairly treated.
He further listed some of the hindrances journalists encounter in the course of their duties.
You would recall that the Akwa Ibom State NUJ just concluded its 2021 press week with Passion 94.5FM being awarded the best broadcast station of the year 2021.

FORMER NIGERIA INTERNATIONAL ETIM ESIN BACKS GERNOT ROHR SACK

Former Nigeria International Etim Esin has described Austin Eguavoen as a good replacement for Gernot Rohr.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a statement on their Facebook page, announced Eguavoen who is currently Technical Director, as the Technical Adviser of the Eagles on an interim basis, thereby ending Rohr’s five-year reign.

Following a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday, it was decided that Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).

Eguavoen’s former teammates Austin Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal were appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.

He will now take charge of the team as it begins preparations for the 2021 Afcon in Cameroon until the appointment of a substantive head coach.

FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY WATER BOARD TO COMMENCE ONLINE BILLING IN 2022

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Water Board has said the Board will commence online billing for users by 2022 to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the territory.

The Acting General Manager of the FCT Water Board, Princess Joy Okoro, who made this known during a press conference with journalists in Abuja, said among other things, the online billing would assist in actualizing the monthly income of over N400 million targeted for 2022.

She explained that the revenue performance of the board had improved significantly with March 2021, July 2021, September, and October 2021 recording unprecedented, improved percentages of 41percent, 19.49percent, 66percent, and 23 per cent respectively.

She also said that before her appointment last year in October, the FCT Water Board which was generating little above N100 million now rakes in over N200 million monthly as revenue.

Okoro further disclosed the Board has concluded plans to install solar in all its facilities to ensure timely printing of bills for customers, that in 2021, the board recorded an unprecedented improvement in areas such as; improved revenue, increased transaction volume reservoir, and production department reservoir.

PRESIDENT BUHARI URGES PARTNERSHIP AMONG ECOWAS COUNTRIES ON HEALTH, SECURITY

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for stronger partnerships among ECOWAS Leaders to tackle challenges facing the region, noting that the political, economic, security and covid-19 issues will require collective action.

The President, who spoke at the 60th ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), said the region faces renewed threats with the covid-19 pandemic, political tensions, terrorism and economic challenges.

Buhari commended his Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-addo, Chair of Authority of ECOWAS, Heads of State and Government and the President of the Republic of Ghana, for the purposeful leadership, commitment and energy he continues to exert to resolve the challenges confronting the organization.

The President noted that the challenges of covid-19 and the catastrophic consequences hoisted on socio-economic environment had continued, adding that the regional resilience, determination and resolution of working together, in solidarity with each other, assisted greatly to lessen the burdens of the pandemic.

President Buhari noted that the sub-region continues to face socio-economic, political, security and environmental fragilities linked to covid-19 pandemic.

VICE PRESIDENT OSINBAJO SAYS YOUTHS CAN SOLVE LOCAL AND GLOBAL CHALLENGES WITH INNOVATIVE IDEAS.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has expressed optimism that young Nigerian graduates can provide solutions to local and global challenges confronting the world, with innovative ideas.

Osinbajo made the remark while speaking at the 60th Anniversary of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, in Osun State.

According to the VP, while young Nigerians, particularly the OAU Graduands, stand on the shoulders of great men and women before them, the onus is on their generation to deal with the biggest issues that confront the world, and the nation.

He added that this generation of young Nigerians is equipped and could proffer solutions in the areas of education, agriculture, health care and security, stressing that the use of technology and improvement in nationwide policing, would further help the country address its security challenges.
