Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the killing of two travellers in the Agan settlement of Makurdi, describing the act as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which claimed the lives of two Kano State indigenes who were reportedly passing through Benue when they were brutally attacked by suspected criminals.
The governor disclosed that five suspects have already been apprehended by the police in connection with the killings, and investigations are ongoing.
“I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. The people of Benue are known for their hospitality and peaceful nature, and we will not allow the actions of a few criminal elements to damage our image or create fear among visitors,” Alia stated.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the families of the deceased, assuring them that justice will be served.
Governor Alia also appealed for calm and cooperation from the public, noting that he had spoken directly with Governor Yusuf earlier in the day to express his sympathies and discuss steps to ensure such incidents do not recur.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the security of all residents and travellers within the state.
