A Nigerian Army captain and a private soldier lost their lives during a Boko Haram attack on Izge community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Wednesday. The terrorists invaded the farming community around 1 am, opening fire before being repelled by joint forces comprising military personnel, local hunters, vigilantes, and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members.
According to the Emir of Gwoza, Mohammed Shehu Timta, the counteroperation resulted in the killing of three terrorists and the recovery of several items, including motorcycles, bicycles, a military vehicle, and a high-caliber rifle. The monarch praised the bravery of security forces and local volunteers while calling on the federal government to enhance military capabilities with advanced technology to combat persistent terrorist threats.
The attack comes as communities prepare for the farming season, raising concerns over renewed insurgent activities in the region. Governor Babagana Zulum was commended for his continued support to security agencies in the fight against terrorism. The emir extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and urged sustained efforts to eliminate remaining terrorist elements in the area.
