The Akwa Ibom State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (AKSACA) has intensified efforts to tackle the HIV/AIDS pandemic by collaborating with traditional institutions to promote awareness, prevention, and treatment.
Dr. Enobong Akpan, AKSACA’s Programme Manager, stated during an interaction with reporters in Uyo that the agency is also working with the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), a project spearheaded by the late First Lady, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, to mitigate the impacts of HIV and related illnesses.
Dr. Akpan highlighted significant progress in the state’s HIV response, aligned with the global theme, Take the Rights Path: Sustain the HIV Response, Stop HIV Among Children to End AIDS by 2030.
State Representative for the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, Dr. Idayat Uthman, acknowledged Nigeria’s strides in combating the pandemic, noting that about two million Nigerians live with HIV, with 85% receiving lifesaving antiretroviral treatments.
Pastor Anne Abraham, Coordinator of GIFA, emphasized the partnership’s commitment to sustaining health advocacy and addressing health challenges for citizens, continuing the legacy of the late First Lady.
