Akwa Ibom Governor’s wife, Patience Umo Eno has advised citizens intending to leave the shores of Nigeria to desist from illegal migration but rather follow due procedures as unlawful adventure poses risk to the lives of those who engage in it.
Pastor Patience Eno gave the advice on Thursday during the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at Ibom Hall, Uyo with the Theme “Enhancing Seamless Regular Migration.”
The First Lady who frowned at the current “JAPA” syndrome, highlighted the ugly trends associated with migrating to other countries by all means, including jail terms, slavery, deaths, and organ trafficking.
Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi charged the NIS to work in collaboration with the state Government and other security Agencies for effective surveillance of border and coastal communities to ensure safety in the State.
Earlier, the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Akwa Ibom State Command, Francisca Dakat, said the workshop was intended to create awareness among the citizenry on the ills associated with illegal migration.
