The Wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno has decried the negative effect of poor access to electricity by many Nigerians which she said has hindered progress and growth in the country.

Patience Eno stated this during the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-Initiative (FEYREP) launch of the Light Up Africa through the lens of children, a project designed to distribute 2500 solar lamps to students of public secondary schools in rural communities of the south-south region of the country.

The governor’s wife applauded FEYReP for supporting education in the State and South-South Region of Nigeria.

The founder of FEYReP who is also the wife of the immediate Past Governor of the State, Dr. Martha Emmanuel, explained that a partnership for the One African Child Solar Lamp Initiative was secured to encourage indigent students of public schools in disadvantaged rural communities without reliable access to electricity to succeed in their educational pursuits.

The event featured the inauguration of thirteen-member women in the Renewable Energy Association, South-South region by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and the presentation of solar lamps to students of three public secondary schools with goodwill messages received from development partners and government functionaries during the launch.
