Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has restated its dedication to ensuring effective oversight and comprehensive representation across the state’s sectors.
Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations, Hon. Itoro-obong Etim, made this known during a stakeholders’ engagement on the proposed 2024 Supplementary Budget of ₦73.4 billion and the adjustment of the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
Hon. Itoro-obong Etim noted that the engagement provides the Executive Arm an avenue to clarify the objectives and benefits of the supplementary budget, which reflects an increase from the previously approved ₦849.9 billion budget.
Dr. Nsikan Nkan, the State Commissioner for Finance, explained that the supplementary budget includes ₦8.9 billion in savings, made possible by governance cost reductions initiated by Governor Umo Eno. Similarly, Hon. Emem Bob, Commissioner for Economic Development, highlighted that adjustments to the MTEF are driven by the state’s revenue growth over the past 11 months, with projections for continued positive performance.
The stakeholders’ meeting underscores Governor Umo Eno’s unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, ensuring the state’s developmental goals are met effectively.
