The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed 3,000 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
The FCT Command says the deployment is aimed at strengthening security, maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property before, during and after the October 1 celebrations.
Personnel have been drawn from specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, Agro Rangers, Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Explosives Unit.
The operation will cover strategic and vulnerable locations across Abuja, including shopping malls, markets, motor parks, recreational centres and critical national assets and infrastructure.
FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has also deployed undercover operatives for surveillance and intelligence gathering, particularly around suspected criminal hideouts, uncompleted buildings and identified black spots.
Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been directed to maintain a strong security presence across their respective Area Councils throughout the celebration period.
Odumosu urged personnel to remain vigilant, warning that the Command will not tolerate any security breach during the Independence Anniversary celebrations.
