The Katsina State Police Command has launched a campaign aimed at preventing the use of young people for political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The initiative, tagged “My Future Is Greater Than Political Thuggery,” was unveiled as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day celebration in Katsina.
Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, warned politicians and other individuals against recruiting or sponsoring youths for violence before, during or after the elections.
He said the command would investigate and prosecute anyone found responsible, regardless of political affiliation or status.
The police also said the campaign extends to online misconduct, including hate speech, cyber-harassment, blackmail and the spread of false information capable of threatening public peace and national security.
According to the command, cybercrime and intelligence units are monitoring digital platforms for activities that could undermine the electoral process.
Fage urged young people to reject political thuggery and avoid being used as tools for violence in exchange for temporary benefits.
He also encouraged youths to verify information before sharing it online and to use digital platforms for productive activities such as education, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The police maintained that peaceful elections remain essential to national development and to creating better opportunities for young Nigerians.
