The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing security challenges in Nigeria and the West African region through strategic international partnerships.

National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, stated this at the opening of the Fourth Nigeria–United Kingdom Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue in Abuja.

Ribadu said Nigeria remains committed to promoting regional stability, democratic governance, economic resilience and collective security across the Gulf of Guinea.

According to him, the partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, which was further strengthened during the third dialogue held in London in July 2025, continues to provide an important platform for addressing contemporary security challenges while upholding human rights and the rule of law.

The dialogue brought together security officials, service chiefs and experts from both countries to deepen cooperation on security, counter-terrorism and defence engagements.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration against transnational crime, terrorism, cyber threats and other evolving security risks facing both nations.

Ribadu emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation and intelligence sharing in tackling emerging threats and ensuring lasting peace and stability within the region.

The United Kingdom also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Nigeria to address the root causes of insecurity.

UK National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, stressed the importance of partnership, intelligence sharing and capacity building in strengthening security cooperation between both countries.

The dialogue later continued behind closed doors, with deliberations expected to further enhance bilateral security relations and strengthen joint efforts to combat terrorism, organised crime and other security challenges.

The Nigeria–UK Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue remains a key platform for advancing strategic cooperation and promoting regional and international security.
