The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State has rejected claims by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, that the South-East would overwhelmingly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The party also criticised remarks allegedly suggesting that major federal infrastructure projects in the region could be affected if the South-East failed to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by its state secretary, Adolphus Ude, the party maintained that the people of the South-East would not be coerced into supporting any political party or candidate.
The statement followed comments reportedly made by Umahi during an inspection of federal road and bridge projects in Ebonyi State, where he urged the region to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
According to the ADC, the minister’s remarks amounted to political intimidation and an attempt to pressure voters through federal projects.

The party argued that people in the South-East are independent-minded and cannot be compelled to vote against their preferences through threats or political pressure.
ADC further accused the current administration of worsening feelings of marginalisation in the region, insisting that electoral support must be earned through governance and inclusion rather than coercion.
