Michael Carrick has been appointed permanent manager of Manchester United after leading the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
The club confirmed the decision on Friday, announcing that Carrick has signed a new contract to remain in charge beyond the current season.
Carrick, a former Manchester United midfielder, initially took over on an interim basis in January following the departure of Ruben Amorim.
Under his leadership, United secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a strong run of results.
The 44-year-old also earned the Premier League Manager of the Month award after victories against Manchester City and Arsenal FC in his opening matches as head coach.
Reacting to his appointment, Carrick expressed pride at continuing his journey with the club where he spent much of his playing career.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” he said.
He added that the players had shown resilience, determination, and togetherness during the second half of the season and stressed the need to continue rebuilding with ambition.
Manchester United’s management said Carrick’s leadership and understanding of the club’s values played a key role in the decision to hand him the permanent role.
