Goodluck Jonathan has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general election after successfully scaling the party’s screening exercise.
The screening committee, chaired by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, cleared Jonathan on Tuesday following the conclusion of the exercise.
Confirming the development, PDP chieftain Umar Sani revealed that the former president had already obtained the party’s nomination form, describing it as a clear indication of his intention to return to active partisan politics.
“In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that,” Sani said.
When asked directly whether Jonathan had purchased the form, Sani responded, “Yes and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”
Jonathan’s emergence as the only cleared aspirant comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
