The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh on Thursday night.
The suspended legislators are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, in a motion of urgent importance, accused the lawmakers of trying to destabilize the Assembly with what he described as an unnecessary crisis.
Following the motion, Speaker Dajoh directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the suspended members out of the chambers.
In the aftermath, Dajoh appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Berger, who previously held the position.
