Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in three new High Court Judges during a formal ceremony held at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City. The newly appointed judges—Justice Ojo Maureen Osa, Justice Godwin Jeff Okundamiya, and Justice Edoghogho Eboigbe—took their oath of allegiance in the presence of top government officials, legal practitioners, and stakeholders in the judiciary.
The judges were among eight candidates approved by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for appointment to the Edo State Judiciary in June 2023. However, their swearing-in was delayed due to their exclusion from a similar ceremony conducted by the previous administration in May 2024. Governor Okpebholo addressed the delay during the event, reiterating his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the judiciary operates independently and efficiently.
In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo highlighted the critical role of the judiciary in safeguarding democracy and justice. He pledged to support the newly appointed judges in their mandate to deliver fair and timely adjudication, emphasizing that their service would enhance public trust in the state’s legal system.
The ceremony also featured goodwill messages from representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who praised the governor’s proactive efforts in addressing judicial appointments and supporting legal institutions.
The newly sworn-in judges expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and vowed to uphold the principles of justice and integrity in their judicial duties.
This swearing-in marks another significant step in strengthening the Edo State Judiciary, which Governor Okpebholo has prioritized as a key pillar of his administration’s governance framework.
