NIGERIAN STUDENTS DISMISS NDDC PROTEST, BACK COMMISSION’S DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS

Date:

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone B, has denounced plans for a protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), calling those behind the protests impostors. This comes as some groups announced unauthorized demonstrations aimed at criticizing the NDDC’s leadership.

In a statement, NANS Zone B Coordinator, Comrade Isaac Ogieva, clarified that the organization had no involvement in the proposed protest. He emphasized NANS’ commitment to peaceful advocacy for students’ welfare while commending the NDDC’s recent developmental strides.

“The current NDDC leadership under Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has been proactive in addressing critical needs, including the provision of solar lighting, scholarships for students, and building infrastructure at higher education institutions in the region,” Ogieva said.

Similarly, the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG) disassociated itself from the protests, labeling them illegitimate. NIDSUG National President, Comrade Scott Ogunseri, urged security agencies to monitor and address any unauthorized demonstrations. He reiterated the union’s support for dialogue with the NDDC to foster regional development.

“We stand by the NDDC’s leadership and urge them to expedite the approval of the proposed Niger Delta bursary while creating more internship and scholarship opportunities for students,” Ogunseri added.

Both organizations stressed the importance of constructive engagement with the NDDC to ensure the continued development of the Niger Delta and the empowerment of its youth.
