SENATE RESUMES: ADJOURNS PLENARY IN HONOUR OF LATE IFEANYI UBAH

Date:

The Nigerian Senate suspended its plenary session on Tuesday to honour the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away during the National Assembly’s annual recess.

The Senate resumed its sessions after the break, which began in late July, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio reading several correspondences from President Bola Tinubu. These included a Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the Federal Capital Territory Administration, the nomination of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria, and a request for the confirmation of commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Following these formalities, the lawmakers observed a moment of silence in tribute to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, who passed away in July 2024 at the age of 52. Ubah represented the Anambra South Senatorial District and chaired the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).

The plenary session was adjourned in honor of the late senator, by the tradition of the National Assembly to suspend the first sitting following the death of a federal lawmaker.
