President Tinubu Meets with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace

Date:

President Bola Tinubu held a private meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, London.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday.

The meeting underscored the strong and longstanding ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a range of global and regional issues, with a particular focus on the pressing challenge of climate change.

They explored avenues for collaboration ahead of the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.

President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to combating climate change, balancing the need for sustainable practices with the country’s energy security objectives.

The dialogue between the two leaders also included discussions on innovative climate financing strategies and strengthening partnerships, leveraging Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth.

This meeting marks the first time Tinubu and King Charles have met since the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai last year, and it was held at the King’s request.
