Bus Overturns in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, Killing 10 and Injuring 35

Date:

In a tragic incident, a bus traveling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg overturned in South Africa’s northeastern Limpopo province late Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to 35 others.

According to a statement released by the local transport ministry on Wednesday, the bus, which was carrying foreign nationals, lost control and overturned after driving over a roundabout at high speed. Among the deceased were five men and five women. The injured passengers were swiftly transported to local hospitals for medical attention.

Authorities revealed that the bus driver, who was new to the job, was unfamiliar with the area, contributing to the accident. The Limpopo provincial government has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to remain vigilant and drive cautiously at all times.

South Africa, while boasting one of the most developed road networks in Africa, continues to grapple with poor road safety. Reckless driving and the use of unroadworthy vehicles are significant contributing factors. This incident follows another major accident earlier this year, where 45 people died when a bus plunged off a bridge into a ravine while en route to a religious event in the northern part of the country.

The local government has reiterated its call for drivers to be mindful of their surroundings and adhere to safety regulations to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
