The Canadian Olympic Committee has issued an apology following an incident where a Canada Soccer staff member allegedly flew a drone over a New Zealand Women’s Football Team training session.
The event occurred on Monday in the French city of St Etienne, as both teams prepared to compete in Group A of the Olympic Football Tournament on Thursday.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee reported the incident to local authorities, resulting in the detention of the drone operator.
Expressing shock and disappointment, the NZOC conveyed its concerns over the breach of privacy and security during the sensitive Olympic preparations.
Confirming the details, the Canadian Olympic Committee acknowledged that the individual responsible was a non-accredited Canada Soccer support team member.
They are now collaborating with the International Olympic Committee, Paris 2024 organizers, Canada Soccer, and world football governing body, FIFA, to determine the appropriate course of action.
