Rivers Hoopers Make History as First Nigerian Club to Reach Basketball Africa League Semifinals

In a historic feat, Rivers Hoopers of Port Harcourt have secured their spot in the semifinals of the Basketball Africa League, becoming the first Nigerian club to do so.

In a thrilling playoff quarterfinals match against 2022 Champions US Monastir of Tunisia, Rivers Hoopers emerged victorious with a final score of 92-88 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

Led by the stellar performance of Will Perry, who scored an impressive 33 points, the Hoopers showcased their dominance on the court.

Contributions from other key players like Kelvin Amayo, with 18 points, six rebounds, and ten assists, alongside Peter Olisemeka’s 18-point, 12-rebound performance, and Devine Eke’s 16 points and 12 rebounds, propelled Rivers Hoopers to their fifth victory in the 2024 Basketball Africa League season.

Rivers Hoopers journey to the semifinals has been nothing short of remarkable, with four previous victories in the Sahara Conference in Dakar, Senegal.

Next up, Rivers Hoopers will face off against Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya on Wednesday, May 29th, in a highly anticipated match that could see them become the first Nigerian team to advance to the Basketball Africa League final.
