Activists Protest Against Plans to Halt School Feeding Programme in Kenya

Date:

Activists in Kenya have warned of potential protests against the government’s plan to eliminate the school feeding programme in marginalized areas and informal settlements.

Janet Ouko, the Executive Director of the Tunza Mtoto Coalition, expressed concern that the National Treasury’s lack of allocation for the program in the upcoming fiscal year is a cause for serious concern.

Mrs. Ouko cautioned against dismantling successful programs and accused the current administration of prioritizing cuts to education funding, beginning with capitation.

Silas Obuhatsa, Chairperson of the National Parents Association, warned that the proposal would impact the goal of achieving one hundred percent transition while urging the government to reconsider and maintain the feeding program.
