The European Union (EU) has revealed its decision to terminate its Military Training Mission in Mali, signaling a decline in relations between the Bloc and the Military Junta of the West African Nation.
The Diplomatic Service of the EU disclosed in a statement that the mission will conclude upon the expiration of its current mandate on May 18 of this year.
According to the statement, the EU maintained that it would not extend the mission’s mandate after reviewing its strategy and consulting with Malian authorities, considering the changing political and security landscape.
Mali has been under Military Rule since August 2020, the first of eight coups in West and Central Africa over four years, including in its neighbours, Burkina Faso and Niger.
