The recently dismissed Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shaibu, has initiated a formal grievance process against the State’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, by reaching out to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola.
Mr. Shaibu is seeking authorization to file a formal petition through the National Judicial Council, chaired by Ariwoola, against Okungbowa for alleged abuse of office, misconduct, and violation of oath of office.
The request was conveyed in a letter signed by Adaze Emwanta, a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation under Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Emwanta’s letter is a formal plea to acquire a complaint form as stipulated by the Judicial Discipline Regulations 2017, enabling Mr. Shaibu to lodge his complaint against the chief judge.

This move comes in the aftermath of Shaibu’s impeachment earlier in the week by the Edo State House of Assembly which followed the findings of a seven-man panel established by Justice Okungbowa, which investigated and substantiated accusations of misconduct and perjury against Mr. Shaibu, leading to his removal from office.
