The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has appointed Nasser Al-Hadiri as the new head coach of the national team ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in October.
Al-Hadiri replaces Serbian coach Micho, who was dismissed after a string of poor results left Libya at the bottom of their qualifying group. The team’s struggles included a 1-1 draw with Rwanda in Tripoli and a 2-1 loss to Benin in Abidjan.
Joining Al-Hadiri’s technical staff are national coach Abu Bakr Al-Harak as assistant coach and Misbah Shangab as goalkeeper coach. LFF President Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani expressed confidence in Al-Hadiri’s abilities, highlighting his previous experience as an assistant coach under Spaniard Javier Clemente in 2014.
On the other side, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are dealing with their uncertainties, with interim coach Augustine Eguavoen expected to continue leading the team in the absence of a permanent head coach.
Libya will take on Nigeria in their third AFCON qualifying match on October 11 in Uyo, followed by a return leg in Benina four days later.
