The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for the alleged murder of his mother, Salama Abdullahi, in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi metropolis.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, the suspect reportedly attacked his 40-year-old mother with a pestle following a heated altercation, causing severe injuries that led to her death.
The incident, which occurred on February 24, was reported to the police by members of the Peace and Security Committee in the Abujan Kwata area. The suspect allegedly assaulted his mother with a heavy pestle, resulting in fractures to both of her hands and other bodily injuries.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdullahi Muazu, led a team of detectives to the scene and rushed the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. Unfortunately, she was later confirmed dead by medical professionals.
Initial investigations revealed that the altercation between the suspect and his mother led to the violent assault. The police have recovered the pestle used in the attack as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
CSP Wakil urged the public to remain calm and assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
