‘Your certificates are not meal tickets’ — El-Rufai to corps members

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has advised the 2022 Batch ‘C’ corps members deployed by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to the state not to regard their certificates as meal tickets.

He charged them to take advantage of the entrepreneurial programme of the scheme as their certificates no longer guarantee meals on their tablets.

Represented by the Commissioner, Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Bab, at the close of orientation course at camp, the Governor said there was an urgent need to collectively fight unemployment to avoid disappointment or even frustration.

“The time has come for us to deploy our innate abilities to better ourselves,” he said.

The governor also appealed to employers to readily accept corps members posted to their organisations for their mandatory one-year national service to the motherland for the purpose of fostering national integration and unity.

Assuring the corps members of their security during the one year programme, El-Rufai reiterated the commitment of his administration to secure the lives and property of indigenes and residents across the state.

Recall that the Acting Director-General of the NYSC, Mrs. Christy Uba, warned corps members not to meddle in local politics and refrain from unauthorized travels.

The Acting DG who was represented by the Kaduna State Coordinator of the scheme, Oche Abel Odoba, encouraged the corps members to undertake personal and group community development service projects to elevate the living standard of people in their host-communities.

The corps members were also encouraged to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training for self-reliance.

The acting DG of the scheme also revealed that it was in liaison with financial institutions and relevant stakeholders to provide start-up loans to enable corps members actualise their business dreams.

The corps members were further advised not to stay out late, attend night parties, visit dangerous places and hitch free rides especially from strangers.
