Date:

Uduak Akpan, the alleged killer of a young graduate, Iniubong Umoren has denied a written confession that was allegedly written by him during his detention in the Anti-Kidnapping Squad Office in Uyo.

Akpan stated this during his trial on Tuesday at the State High Court, Uyo.

He explained that the statement was already written and brought to him to append his signature, and when he refused, he was strangulated with a nylon bag and threatened with a gun.

Explaining the effect this has on the case while speaking with newsmen after the Court session, Former Attorney General of the State, Uwemedimo Nwoko said the Court would have a trial within a trial to ascertain the true fact of the issue.

On the 24 hour rule that the police relied on before filing  a missing person’s report, Counsel to the second and third defendant, Samson Ekongson, called for a reform on the Police Force.

You would recall that Uduak Akpan is standing trial alongside his father, Frank Akpan who is listed as second defendant over the murder of Iniubong Umoren.

The case has been adjourned to 1st December, 2021.
