A massive cruise ship heading to South Wales, Australia, has been hit by a COVID-19 outbreak, leaving over 2,000 guests affected.
At least 100 passengers and staff were infected on the cruise ship, Coral Princess, which travelled from Queensland and was due for dock in New South Wales, according to an ABC report.
The health department of New South Wales disclosed on Tuesday that a large number of COVID-19 cases on the ship were crew members. The department also speculates that although a small number of passengers were diagnosed with the virus on the ship, they most likely contracted the virus prior to boarding.
All the diagnosed persons were isolated and given medical attention by the onboard medical team. The health department places the risk level at ‘amber” which implies a moderate impact on the vessel.
The large ship is currently destined for the South Coast of New South Wales. No crew members will be allowed to disembark and all passengers will be required to return a negative RAT result before they can leave.
