President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs and appointed new officers as replacements.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari was said to have accepted the resignation of the former service chiefs and immediately named their replacements.
The statement explained that Major -General Leo Irabor replaced General Abayomi Olonisakin as Chief of Defense Staff; Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru replaced Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; Rear-Admiral A.Z Gambo replaced Vice-Admiral Ibok Ekwe Obad as Chief of Naval Staff; while Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao replaced Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
President Buhari appreciated the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he calls their overwhelming achievements in efforts at bringing enduring peace to the country, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
He congratulated the new Service Chiefs and urged them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The move by the President comes after several demands by Nigerians calling for the removal of the service chiefs and rejig of Nigeria’s military apparatus, following security challenges confronting the nation.
