A sergeant in the Nigeria Police, Kwara State Command, Olalere Michael has allegedly shot a lady to death before taking his own life immediately.

Confirming the unfortunate incidence, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ajayi Okasanmi said that information reached the headquarters about 8:05am on Thursday that the Police Personnel with Tag F/ NO 497093 went to Chapel of Redemption, Agba Dam Housing Estate Ilorin to commit the unexpected act.

Okasanmi said the late Micheal Olalere opened fire on the yet to be identified lady before shooting himself on the head and died on the spot.

An eye-witness told newsmen that upon arrival at the school with her child, the police officer accosted the murdered woman, had some discussions with her before shooting her twice.

He added that the police officer immediately shot himself to death also.

Another eye-witness who saw the incident from a nearby building confirmed the report.

A man, claiming to be a property owner, said the police officer and the woman hired an apartment from him some weeks back and had been behaving like love birds until they started having problems five days earlier.

“They have been having issues since five days ago. When they rented the house, we were always happy with the way they showed love to each other.

“Some say the police officer was a man friend of the woman, but they had been quarreling for the past few days now,’’ the man said.

However, Kwara State Police Command has condemned the action of a police sergeant, Olalere Michael who killed a woman and himself at Agba Dam Area of Ilorin.

Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Mr Paul Odama has directed that the bodies be deposited at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Morgue while investigation into the incident commences.

Mr Okasanmi however maintained that the issue has nothing to do with police brutality but love gone sour.
