The United Nations (UN) humanitarian agency says over one million Somalis have been displaced due to drought-related reasons.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 83,518 people were displaced in July due to drought, an amount that is a 26 per cent decrease compared to that of June.
Earlier in June, the UN agency appealed for $993.3 million to provide life-saving and sustaining measures to prevent famine and respond to the drought in Somalia by December.
OCHA has decried the severe impact of the drought and increasing economic pressures on the country and fears that the East African nation is now on the brink of famine.
