Nollywood Actor Leo Mezie Dies After a Long Battle with Kidney Disease

Nigerian nollywood actor, Leonard Chimezie Onyemachi, popularly known as Leo Mezie has died after a long battle with kidney disease.

Confirming Mezie’s death, Nollywood actress, Chioma Toplis, on her Instagram page on Monday, said the 46-year-old actor died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant, adding that his corpse has been moved to Umuahia, his hometown for burial.

“Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from a kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia, his hometown. RIP Leo,” she wrote.

Mezie had his first kidney transplant over four years ago, and had another one last week, but began to develop complications after the surgery, and died on Saturday.

Mourning the late actor, his colleague, Ime Bishop Okon wrote, “You fought hard. You fought well. Rest easy my brother.”

Mezie was born on 25 January, 1976. He started acting in 1996 when he joined Nollywood.

In 2003, he rose to stardom after starring alongside Emma Ehummadu, Jerry Williams and Ernest Asuzu in the Nollywood blockbuster ‘Labista’.

He has acted alongside actors and actresses, such as Jerry Amilo, Zack Orji, Chidi Mokeme, among others.

Some notable movies he featured in are: Total War, No Man’s Land, Heart of a Slave, Close Enemy, King’s Sleepless Night, and Empty Throne, among others.
