Highest-grossing Netflix series, Squid Game, would no longer remain just a fictitious television show after the streaming service approved its biggest reality competition ever, called “Squid Game: The Challenge”.
The competition would field 456 players and unlike the series where the stakes are life or death, the worst possible fate for a player in the reality show will be leaving without the $4.56 million cash money, which Netflix insists is the biggest cash prize in TV history.
After its release in September 2021, Squid Game gathered popularity and soon became Netflix’s most-watched series of all time. It follows the story of cash-strapped contestants playing childhood games for a chance to win huge amounts of money.
The first season became Netflix’s most popular series of all time, gathering views of over 1.65 billion hours in its first 28 days, according to the company.
The reality competition would span 10 episodes and include games inspired by the original show, as well as new additions, Netflix revealed.
The show will be filmed in the United Kingdom and is casting only English speakers at the moment. The announcement of the show comes just days after the scripted series got a green light for a second season.
