NDLEA Marks Abba Kyari’s Houses, Shopping Plaza for Investigation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has marked for investigation, six residential houses and one plaza, belonging to the embattled former commander of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari.

The agency had on Monday, March 21, secured the approval of the ministry of justice to confiscate the assets.

According to PUNCH, the approval was secured by the federal government through the ministry of justice under Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami.

The property includes a two-storey shopping plaza, Assurance Plaza, located along the Giwa Barracks Road in Maiduguri, has about 100 stores.

Six other residential houses within the Maiduguri New Government Residential Area allegedly belonging to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police had also been marked by the NDLEA.

Confirming the decision of the AGF, an officer of the Justice Ministry said:

“The AGF has endorsed the request by the NDLEA seeking approval for the confiscation of the assets of Abba Kyari, Ubua, and the other police officers involved in drug dealing.

“With the approval, the drug agency can now go after their properties, such as real estate, bank accounts, cash, vehicles, stocks, bonds and anything of monetary value.”

The officer, whose identity was not revealed noted that the seizure of the properties of Kyari and his co-accused was to ensure that they did not benefit from ill-gotten riches.

The NDLEA had on Monday, said it arrested a suspected drug dealer linked to the N3 billion worth of tramadol intercepted by the then Kyari-led IRT team.
