The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 13,451,466 tramadol 225mh tablets worth N8,860,000,000 on the black market in Lagos.
The NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Monday that agency agents had also detained the accused drug baron, Chukwukadibia Ugochukwu, in connection with the seized drugs.
Mr Babafemi stated that the operatives raided one of the suspect’s residences in the posh residential development of Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos.
Mr Ugochukwu, the chairman of Autonation Motors Ltd, was arrested just two months after NDLEA discovered a methamphetamine clandestine laboratory at the property of another alleged drug kingpin in the estate, Chris Nzewi.
Mr. Babafemi stated that Mr. Nzewi was apprehended on July 30, along with a patent medicine merchant named Sunday Ukah, who was believed to have manufactured the illegal substance for him.
During Mr Nzewi’s arrest, at least 258.74 kilos of crystal methamphetamine and several precursor chemicals used in the production of the dangerous drug were confiscated from his residence.
“A search of the expansive mansion led to the discovery of 443 cartons of Tramadol Hydrochloride 225 mg.
“This was in a carton which contained 13,451,466 pills of the drug, while some cartons were already burnt in a fire incident in the house the same day,” Babafemi said
