Minister of Petroleum, Sylva joins Bayelsa governorship race

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has joined the race to run for the governorship seat of Bayelsa state.

According to reports, friends of the Minister on his behalf purchased the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms for the Bayelsa governorship election at the cost of N50 million.

It was gathered that a group of friends stormed the National Secretariat of the ruling APC on Monday, February 20, 2023, to pick the nomination form in honour of the Minister from the Directorate of Organisation at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.

Timipre Sylva was Governor of Bayelsa State between 2008–2012 and was later appointed Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in 2019.

The governorship election in the state is slated for November 11, 2023.
