The Nigerian para-athlete, Maria-Patience Akpan won Gold in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Cape Coast, South Africa.
Maria-Patience was discovered a few months ago during an inter-House Sports Competition in Community Secondary Commercial School, Ibiaku Itam in Akwa Ibom State.
She ran a time of 16.74 seconds to beat South Africa’s Imani Pethi and Visser Sanette who both ran 17.36 and 18.90 seconds, to win Gold Medal in the 100 Meters CP Event and this is her first International Event in South Africa.
Meanwhile, with this achievement, Maria-Patience has qualified for the Commonwealth Youth Games scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago in August 2023.
