[LAGOS]- Police Arrests Yoruba Nation Agitators

Date:

The Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Command has arrested no fewer than 10 Yoruba Nation agitators over an alleged plan to embark on a protest in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin made this known in a post on Twitter, on Sunday.

According to him, the agitators were arrested while setting up a camp for the protest in the Alausa area of the state.

He noted that an investigation had commenced into the case which was transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, Hundeyin said the command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness in the state.

The post read, “Earlier today, a number of Yoruba Nation agitators commenced setting up of a camp at Alausa, planned to be used as a base to launch a massive protest. The camp was promptly dislodged while agitators were arrested. The investigation continues at the SCID. Lawlessness will not be tolerated.” In the pictures attached to the post, no fewer than 10 persons were seen wearing clothes inscribed with the Yoruba Nation flag.

The agitators stood in front of a Yoruba Nation banner.

Loaves of bread, two generators, a pot, coolers and a cooker, among others, were also seen in one of the pictures.

This comes barely two weeks after the four persons were arrested by the police over the violence at a rally organised by ‘Yoruba nation’ agitators in the state.

Recall that, ‘Yoruba nation’ agitators organised a rally at the Gani Fawehinmi park in Ojota area of Lagos to demand what they described as a separate nation for the Yoruba people of Nigeria.

It was reported that police dispersed members of the movement with teargas canisters, after which the rally became violent.

Speaking after the incident, Banji Akintoye, one of the leaders of Ilana Omo Oodua, alleged that police officers killed two agitators during the “peaceful” rally.

However, the Lagos police command said two officers were shot during the rally.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, in a tweet, identified the suspects as Olatunji Abatan, Nwosa Henry, Ganiyu Sakajojo, and Afees Adekoya.

“The suspects arrested yesterday: Olatunji Abatan, Nwosa Henry, Ganiyu Sakajojo, Afees Adekoya. An investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos,” Hundeyin wrote.
