A branch of the Guaranty Trust Bank branch in the Mararaba area of the Federal Capital Territory was reportedly on fire in the early hours of Friday.
The GTBank branch is situated alongside the Nyanya and Mararaba Expressway, Before Abacha Road in Karu.
Mararaba is a border town, between the FCT and Nasarawa State.
A Twitter user, @braunsyrup, had at 8:04 am on Friday, called the attention of the Federal Fire Service, and the GTBank to the fire incident.
When contacted, the Head of Operations of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Yes, there was a fire outbreak at the bank, but we have put it out.”
According to a report from the fire department, the inverter system’s power surge started the fire, which was extinguished at 8:40 am.
It was also stated that the server room on the top floor of the one-story building was where the fire first started.
According to the report, the fire destroyed some furniture, the inverter system, and batteries. As of the time this report was filed, was unable to confirm whether there were any fatalities or injuries as a result of the fire.
