It is the ninth time federal government has extended the deadline for Nigerians to link their Phone numbers with their National Identity Numbers since it enforcement in December, 2020.
The deadline was to elapse on Friday, December 31, but government again extended it to March 31, 2022.
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, conveyed the approval of the new deadline by the Federal Government on Friday, in a joint statement by the Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and the Head of Corporate Communications of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mr Kayode Adegoke.
Pantami said over 71 million Nigerians have registered for the National Identity Number and captured accordingly in the National database as of December 30 with over 14,000 enrolment centres set up across the country.
