Emirates Airlines has announced that it will resume flights to Lagos on September 11, 2022.
The airline made the announcement in an email to customers and travel agencies on Wednesday.
According to the International Air Transport Association, Emirates sent the letter five days after the federal government released $265 million to international airlines to clear outstanding foreign airlines’ detained funds out of the $464 million owed to Nigerian airlines (IATA).
“We are pleased to inform you that effective from 11th September 2022, we will reinstate operations of flights,” Emirates said.
“Inbound flights from Dubai to Lagos (EK783) and outbound flights from Lagos to Dubai (EK783) will recommence from Sunday, 11th September 2022.
“Lagos flights after 30th September, 2022 will be advised in due course,” the airline stated.
Emirates said two weeks ago that it would ban all flights to and from Nigeria beginning September 1.
The airline had disclosed that it had exhausted all options to address its ongoing difficulties in repatriating funds from Nigeria and that it had made significant efforts to initiate dialogue with the appropriate authorities for an intervention to reach a resolution, but there had been no progress.
“We remain keen to serve Nigeria, and our operations provide much-needed connectivity for Nigerian travellers, providing access to trade and tourism opportunities to Dubai and to our broader network of over 130 destinations,” Emirates said.
