EFCC Arrests 17 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Akwa Ibom Operation

Anti-graft agency recovers luxury vehicles, electronic devices in intelligence-led sting

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 17 alleged cybercriminals in a coordinated operation across Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, between April 11 and 14, 2025.

Details of the Arrests

According to an EFCC statement signed by spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the suspects—aged between 20 and 32—were arrested in multiple high-end residential areas including:

  • Use-Offot Nwaniba
  • Urua Ekpa
  • Ikot Ekpene Road
  • Calabar-Itu Road
  • Mechanic Village

Exhibits Recovered

Operatives seized:

  • 26 smartphones
  • 3 laptop computers
  • 4 luxury vehicles:
    • White Lexus IS 250 (ABJ-739AV)
    • Metallic grey Toyota Corolla (KTE-687EP)
    • Black Lexus 350 (BWR-36LN)
    • Black Mercedes GLE (FST-863JS)

  4. Samuel Asuquo (28)
  5. Raphael James (29)
  6. Chimobi Moses (29)
  7. Edara Ubong (21)
  8. Nchekwube Paul (23)
  9. Happiness Anietie Michael (23)
  10. Christopher Edet (32)
  11. Amadi Justice (27)
  12. Patrick Ahiakwo (30)
  13. Sunday Umoh (24)
  14. Michael Ekerette Sunday (25)
  15. Kennedy Etim Okokon (29)
  16. Igwe Greg (30)
  17. Goodnews Ita (23)

Next Steps

The EFCC confirmed that suspects will face prosecution upon completion of investigations, continuing the agency’s intensified crackdown on cybercrime in southern Nigeria.
